Sturm Graz: Sensation in the debut! Jürgen Säumel leads the team to a 7-0 win!

SK Sturm Graz suffered another setback this Champions League season after they lost 3-2 to Lille in their last group game. This was the fifth defeat in the group stage so far. However, interim coach Jürgen Säumel experienced a mixed fate. He has only suffered one defeat in his first five games, but the shadows of the previous season weigh heavily on the team. Despite the defeat in Lille, there are positive voices from the team that give the coach great praise. Otar Kiteishvili said on “Canal+” after the game: “He did a great job” and made it clear that he still has confidence in Säumel’s work. Jon Gorenc-Stankovic agreed, but added that the final decisions about Säumel's future rest with club officials. However, sports director Michael Parensen announced that a decision on the coaching position could be made soon.

Sensational start for Säumel

Jürgen Säumel's first appearance in the Bundesliga was completely different. His debut as interim coach was a real shooting feast as Sturm defeated Klagenfurt with an impressive 7-0. In front of the home crowd in the Merkur Arena, the team ensured a historic evening in which the team scored no fewer than seven goals. “It couldn’t be much nicer,” commented Säumel after the game and emphasized his team’s enthusiasm for the game. This wasn't just a win, but a statement for the team and his coaching skills.
In the first half, Graz's dominance was obvious, with four goals from just six shots. William Böving and Mika Biereth played particularly outstandingly, each contributing two goals. Nevertheless, Säumel emphasized that despite the magnificent victory, everyone has to stay grounded as there are still big challenges waiting for them in the Champions League and the championship. Klagenfurt coach Peter Pacult, on the other hand, was visibly disappointed by his team's decline in performance, which will struggle in the table after the defeat.
