Pischeldorf fire department shines with impressive results in 2024!

The 146th annual general meeting of the Pischeldorf Volunteer Fire Department took place on March 28, 2025, at which Commander Gottfried Duller took a detailed stock of the activities in 2024. As part of this meeting, Duller reported on a total of 52 missions, including a remarkable premiere: for the first time, members of the Pischeldorf fire department were also active in a disaster operation outside of Carinthia, more precisely in Lower Austria.

The training and further education of the 148 members have taken on a high priority. Last year, the Pischeldorf fire department completed 15 courses at the state fire brigade school in Klagenfurt, which supports the continuous development of the emergency services.

Voluntary achievements and honors

In total, the Pischeldorf fire department provided 6,798 unpaid hours for the general public. This outstanding willingness to serve was recognized with the award of the Carinthian Disaster Protection Medal, which was awarded to the volunteer emergency services by Provincial Councilor Daniel Fellner.

The Pischeldorf Fire Brigade Youth is also very committed and consists of 27 members. The next generation is constantly being promoted: six new members, including three women, were accepted into active service on probation, while Mayor Andreas Scherwitzl swore in three comrades after a successful probationary period.

Competitions and future events

An important event is already coming up: The district performance competitions for the districts of Klagenfurt-Land and Klagenfurt-Stadt took place on June 8, 2024 on the sports field in Rottenstein. 40 competition groups took part in this competition in the active age category; 75 young people also took part in individual competitions and 25 youth groups took part in group competitions.

There were notable placements for the youth groups, including Emma Neubauer from FF Ottmanach achieved Bronze A in the individual evaluation. The next big competition, the state competition, will take place on June 22nd in St. Veit an der Glan.

A look at the fire brigade statistics for 2022 shows that around 350,283 members are active in the fire brigades throughout Austria, 99% of whom work on a voluntary basis. The total number of operations was 244,360, with fire operations increasing slightly compared to the previous year. These figures illustrate the importance of the fire departments for the safety of the population, and the Pischeldorf Volunteer Fire Department contributes to the stability and security of the region with its commitment.

The presence of well-known guests of honor and fire department officials at the annual general meeting shows the appreciation of the work in the Pischeldorf Volunteer Fire Department and its importance for the community.
