Olaf Scholz: A look behind the scenes of the chancellor's life!
Chancellor Olaf Scholz was recently a guest on the podcast “And what are you doing at the weekend?” (Episode 180). In this episode he gave insights into his personal life and habits. Born in Osnabrück in 1958 and raised in Hamburg, Scholz has already held various important political positions, including First Mayor of Hamburg, Federal Minister of Labor and Finance and SPD General Secretary. He has held the office of Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany since 2021.
Scholz reported that he starts his weekend on Friday evening by changing into a pair of jeans and not wearing sweatpants. During his free time, he loves watching talk shows on television. He described his sleeping habits as uncomplicated: On Saturdays he wakes up shortly before eight and doesn't use the snooze button, and he doesn't have any problems falling asleep. Another personal topic is cooking. His recipe for Königsberger meatballs is particularly well known. He also raves about the architect Sep Ruf and his architectural photos.
Insights into Scholz’s hobbies and preferences
In the past, Scholz took a two-year break from politics, during which he worked as a lawyer and read a lot of books. When asked about Friedrich Merz, he was unable to provide any information about his competence. Regarding his marriage to Britta Ernst, he said that it was clear early on that she was the right woman for him. Scholz enjoys reading biographies about Jürgen Habermas and loves science fiction and theater marathons. He avoids political talk shows because he sees them as staging politics. Sport plays an important role in his life, he jogs and rows and has a WaterRower in his chancellor's apartment. Towered at home, he doesn't wear slippers and is mostly barefoot. For the coming weekend he recommended porridge with salt, biographies about Jürgen Habermas, the Anthropolis marathon and plays by Kirill Serebrennikov.
In addition, Olaf Scholz will be a guest on the talk show “3nach9” on March 8, 2024.
