New building gets new deputy district leader: Senad Lacevic

On December 4, 2024, Senad Lacevic, the previous club chairman of the SPÖ Neubau, was nominated as the new deputy district leader. This was announced by the SPÖ Neubau. The election of the 46-year-old, who works as a works council member at Vienna's adult education centers, will take place on December 12, 2024. Lacevic succeeds Gallus Hühner, who is leaving the position after ten years due to a professional reorientation. Lacevic, who has been active in the district council for over fifteen years, emphasizes the importance of social justice and fair educational opportunities for all new builders. He said: “There needs to be a strong SPÖ in the new building because there are a lot of people living here who are not rich and privileged.”

In his new role, Lacevic plans to focus on projects that aim to improve the quality of life in the district. The focus is on supporting people with low incomes. Through the SPÖ Neubau advisory brunch, he created a platform to regularly exchange ideas with citizens about topics such as housing and social issues. Lacevic, herself the child of guest workers, is also committed to educating refugees and combating the climate crisis. He positions himself clearly: “Climate protection and social justice are not a contradiction.” The SPÖ Neubau is already supporting numerous measures by the City of Vienna to combat this crisis, as Lacevic emphasized in his presentation.

Professional experience and commitment

Senad Lacevic, born in 1978, was the first in his family to study and combines his experiences as a working-class child with his social commitment. He was passionately committed to various educational projects, including the conversion of VS Stiftgasse into an all-day school and the founding of the Flash girls' café. His priority topics are social justice, sustainable mobility and creating more space for children's needs in the densely populated new building, the seventh largest district in Vienna. Lacevic is convinced that every child, regardless of their parents' income, should have the best conditions to grow up happily, which he considers important in order to be able to meet social challenges.

Lacevic thanks his predecessor for his future term of office: "Hardly anyone knows the district as well as Gallus Vogel. His commitment to affordable housing has borne a lot of fruit." This shows that he sees the work he has already done as the basis for his future plans. Lacevic is determined to continue positioning the SPÖ Neubau as a strong voice for citizens while remaining active in social and educational issues.
