Cat trapped in car rim: Pöchlarn fire department saves animal!

On June 20, 2025, the Pöchlarn volunteer fire department in Lower Austria was alerted to a remarkable animal rescue operation. While checking his electric vehicle, a driver discovered that a cat had clawed itself into the rim of the rear tire. Despite several attempts by the owner to free the animal on his own, the cat remained trapped in its predicament.

After the fire service was alerted, the emergency services were quickly on the scene. To help the cat out of its predicament, the firefighters raised the vehicle with a jack and loosened the screws on the wheel. During these measures, the wheel moved slightly, which ultimately gave the cat the opportunity to free itself. Thanks to the fire department's quick and professional response, a potentially tragic outcome for the animal was prevented.

These animal rescue operations are part of a larger context of animal protection, as documented in the current cat protection report from the German Animal Welfare Association. The report, which is based on data from 566 animal protection associations, shows the situation of street cats in Germany. There are 495 animal protection associations operating in rural areas, while 109 associations look after the street cat population in urban areas. In this large number of organizations, a total of 604 animal protection associations were surveyed in order to draw a comprehensive picture of the situation [now-cats-help] provides information about it.

The fire brigade's operations are not only important for the animals affected, but also shed light on the general responsibility that society has towards animals. Rescuing animals from emergency situations is part of a larger commitment to animal welfare, which is constantly supported by the work of numerous organizations and volunteers.
