Dangerous discovery in Hamburg: explosive bomb from the Second World War successfully detonated!
Today, March 5, 2025, Hamburg was the scene of a dangerous defusing. An explosive ordnance disposal diver was called to inspect a 250-pound English World War II explosive bomb. This was ten meters deep on the site of a refinery in Hamburg-Heimfeld. Like the portal fireworld.at reported that direct defusing was not possible because the bomb could only be reached via a narrow recovery shaft. The only solution was a controlled demolition.
Controlled demolition ensures safety
The bomb was finally successfully detonated at 6:00 p.m. Previously, the Hamburg fire department provided fire protection together with the company fire department. A 300 meter wide exclusion radius was established and the warning radius was 1000 meters to secure the area. Residents were not affected, either 24hamburg.de reported. Only shipping traffic in the nearby seaport was temporarily restricted. At 6:05 p.m. the security measures were lifted after the area was checked.
The fire brigade was on duty with around 20 emergency services for around four hours to master the dangerous situation and protect the population. In such critical situations, the important work of the emergency services, who work at considerable risk to avert dangers to the general public, is once again demonstrated.
