Lighter thrown at Union Berlin: DFB investigates after scandal!

Union Berlin is in the spotlight for a scandalous incident that happened during the home game against VfL Bochum. A lighter was thrown from the Union fans' block at Bochum goalkeeper Patrick Drewes and hit him, leading to the game being interrupted for almost 30 minutes. On Monday, Bochum lodged a protest against the scoring of the game, while Union Berlin took the correct position with the German Football Association (DFB). Club spokesman Christian Arbeit announced that the statement was submitted on time and that there was already a confirmation of receipt from the DFB, but how the process would proceed was uncertain NWZonline reported.

Strict action against the perpetrator

In a decisive reaction, Union Berlin also issued a three-year stadium ban against the alleged perpetrator. According to Christian Arbeit, the perpetrator was quickly identified and the police were called in. A report has been filed and the longest possible nationwide stadium ban has now been imposed. The incident has legal consequences as two charges are pending against the perpetrator. “We reacted very quickly,” said Arbeit, as the club focuses on the ongoing investigation Daily Mirror reported.
