Drug crime in Germany
In a comprehensive report, the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) highlights the challenge of drug-related crime. Combating internationally organized drug crime is a central task of the BKA. This crime profits from illegal profits in the drug trade and poses a significant threat to internal security. International trade involves classic drugs such as heroin, cocaine and cannabis as well as synthetic drugs such as amphetamine and methamphetamine. The BKA's work aims to combat illegal trafficking and ensure public safety, as explained on the BKA's website.
In addition, the analysis of decrypted data led to extensive investigations and the identification of suspects. Despite the successes in combating it, the pressure in the area of narcotics, particularly cocaine, remains high. The challenges are compounded by new psychoactive substances and illegal drug trafficking on the Internet.
In Germany, around 347,000 drug crime cases were recorded by the police in 2023, which corresponds to an increase of 2 percent compared to the previous year. Cannabis remains the most common substance affected, despite being partially legalized as of April 1, 2024.
