EsRAP receives Willi Resetarits Prize for its commitment to diversity
On April 6, 2025, the prestigious “Willi Resetarits Prize” was awarded in Vienna City Hall, which is worth 10,000 euros. The winner of the year 2025 is the innovative hip-hop duo EsRAP, consisting of the siblings Esra and Enes Özmen. This award not only recognizes their musical achievements, but is also a mandate to use music as a political force and to advocate for social cohesion and integration OTS reported.
The EsRAP siblings use their music to bring post-migrant experiences and issues such as identity, racism and social inequality to the fore. At a time when cultural diversity is celebrated more than ever, City Councilor for Culture Veronica Kaup-Hasler emphasized that the prize is a symbol of an open society that is promoted through art and music. This is also confirmed by Nikolaus Heinelt, who, as head of the jury, describes EsRAP as a role model of Austrian pop culture with a migrant background.
Music with attitude
EsRAP's music combines classic rap with Turkish arabesque influences, adding additional depth to their message. This unique merger is perceived as highly political and anti-racist. Andrea Eraslan-Weninger from Integrationshaus emphasized that the group addresses the challenges and facets of being a woman in the hip-hop world. The jury consisted of members of the Integrationshaus and other cultural institutions who recognized the cultural significance of EsRAP.
The “Willi Resetarits Prize” is awarded to artists who actively promote integration and social cohesion. The first winner of the award last year was singer Vusa Mkhaya. This award is intended not only to honor artistic work, but also to highlight the social and political challenges that many migrants face.
Integration and diversity
The Integrationshaus, which plays a central role in supporting migrants and refugees, is known as a competence center for the reception and integration of people seeking protection. It offers accommodation, education and advice, making it an important player in the field of social integration. In a similar vein, the LVR University Hospital Essen pursues an intercultural approach to reduce discrimination and promote diversity. These initiatives are essential for a fair and inclusive society that faces the challenges of a multicultural, multi-ethnic and multi-religious future university clinic-essen explained.
EsRAP impressively shows how music can be used as a powerful tool to address social issues and at the same time overcome cultural barriers. Their work and the associated award are not only a recognition of artistic achievements, but also of their tireless commitment to a fairer world.
