Burglary in the municipal office: perpetrators leave chaos in Hafnerbach!

A frightening break-in has made the municipal office of Hafnerbach in the St. Pölten district the target of criminal activity. As Leopold Schweiger from the St. Pölten-Land district police command reports, the unknown perpetrators initially tried to enter through the back of the building. When this attempt failed, they broke down the front entrance door. Shortly before 7 a.m., a community worker noticed the crime, which put the community on alert. Fortunately, there was only a small amount of cash in the safes, but the damage caused was significant.

Mayor Stefan Gratzl described how the criminals blithely rampaged through the municipal office and recklessly broke open numerous doors and boxes. "Two safes were broken into. The cash registers stored in them were taken," he explained in an interview with the crown. He made it clear that the amount of money was only in the mid-three-digit euro range, while the material damage was “really massive”. The police have now started an investigation and are wondering whether this may be the same group of perpetrators who committed a similar crime in the neighboring town of Neidling a few weeks ago.

Closure of the municipal office

Due to the break-in, the town hall remained closed Tuesday and a message was posted on the building informing residents of the situation. Mayor Gratzl assures that municipal employees will immediately look through everything with inventory lists to determine whether any other items were stolen. “Normal operations should resume the next day,” added Gratzl. Despite the shock, he assures that the break-in should not further impact work while the investigation continues.

As the NOP reported, the suspicion remains that it is an organized gang that is currently wreaking havoc in the region. The close temporal connection between the break-ins in Hafnerbach and Neidling gives the police additional evidence that a criminal pattern can be identified here.
