On January 11, 2025, the Advent celebration of the Catholic educational community (KEG) took place in the district association Unterallgäu/Memmingen in Mindelheim. Together with numerous members, the honorary chairman Ursula Kiefersauer honored long -term members for their loyalty and commitment.

Among the honored were Eva-Maria Winkler from Mindelheim, who has been a member for 70 years and in 1954 the KEG, as well as Gisela Maier and Albert Zangl, both of whom have been members for 60 years. Wolfgang Vogt, Anneliese Höring, Karl Rid, Martin Geiger, Johann Manz, Angelika Traut, Maria Schmölz, Christa Negele, Karl Wagner, Rosi Prestel, Monika Rauh and Brigitte Treml were also awarded for their longstanding membership.

honors and challenges in the field of education

The event included musical performances and Christmas texts by Margaret Sauter and Pastor Albert Leinauer. In addition to the honors, topics that affect the current challenges in the teaching profession were also discussed. The members reported difficulties such as bureaucracy, lack of staff, cuts in the musical subjects and the associated pressure to perform.

In this context, the situation in early childhood education is alarming. Current results of the DKLK study 2023, which comprises a survey of 5,387 kitals in Germany, show that around 10,000 daycare centers operated over half of the time with personnel underlap last year. This number has risen sharply compared to previous years, and over 70% of the kitals report on their legal mandate.

The study also illustrates that almost 95% of the kitals have exacerbated the lack of personnel in the past 12 months, which leads to a high level of workload. Over 80% of the employees are dissatisfied with their pedagogical work, and a quarter of the kitalinungs reports of dismissals due to the lack of personnel.

The DKLK study 2023, which was created in cooperation with the VBE, demands numerous measures to improve the situation, including better payment, create new jobs and improve working conditions.
