New cycle path connects Ringelsdorf and Drösing - for safe mobility!

On October 24, 2025, a significant walking and cycle path project in the market town of Ringelsdorf-Niederabsdorf was officially released. This new route leads from Ringelsdorf to Drösing and is a step towards promoting sustainable mobility in the region. The project was supported by cycle path funding from the state of Lower Austria.

The cycle path, which is now designated as a cycle route, is around 2.2 kilometers long and 3 meters wide. In addition, there is a 0.3 meter wide banquet on both sides of the path. The construction time was around four months and the total costs were estimated at around 130,000 euros, with 70 percent of this being borne by the state of Lower Austria and the market town covering the remaining 30 percent.

Infrastructure and connections

The cycle path begins on Bahnhofstrasse in Ringelsdorf and runs east parallel to the railway line. A level-free crossing of the B 49 state road also ensures improved traffic safety. The connection not only connects to the inner-city municipal road network, but also provides access to important local facilities. These include, among other things, the community center, kindergartens, schools, shops, restaurants, banks, doctors and sports facilities.

The new cycle path connection is part of the regional cycle route “March Panorama Cycle Path” and provides a direct connection to the main northern Austrian cycle route “Kamp-Thaya-March Cycle Path”. This not only promotes cycling, but also supports the development of low-impact tourism in the region.

Growing popularity of cycling and walking

The current study by klimaaktiv mobil shows that active mobility is becoming increasingly popular in Austria. Accordingly, 92 percent of those surveyed said they walk several times a week, and 73 percent even say they walk every day or almost every day. This shows an increase of five percentage points compared to 2021. The survey shows that more and more people are walking, which also underlines the relevance of walking and cycling paths such as the newly opened path in Ringelsdorf.

Overall, the new cycle and footpath connection not only offers an opportunity for environmentally friendly transport, but also an improved quality of life for the region's residents and visitors.
