Libel trial in Munich

Meanwhile, an unusual libel trial before the Munich district court is coming to an end. The verdict could come on Thursday in a case that sheds light on the bizarre side of science. A 70-year-old defendant is suspected of having falsified an entire scientific book and using this forgery to make accusations of plagiarism against the head of the Forensic Medicine Institute at Ludwig Maximilian University, Professor Matthias Graw. The public prosecutor's office accuses the defendant of forgery and defamation, with revenge being a suspected motive since the defendant protested against his mother's autopsy in 2020 after her death. To further increase the confusion surrounding the alleged plagiarism allegations, he had copies of the fake book auctioned off and specifically informed plagiarism hunters, who informed the University of Hamburg about the incident, which led to an investigation procedure, such as the Doctors newspaper reported.
