U.S. Teen Influencer After Illegal Antarctic Landing, Deal in Chile achieves
A judge in Chile has agreed to suspend the procedures against an American teenage pilot and social media influencer. Ethan Guo has been stuck on a remote island in Antarctic since the end of June after he was accused of landing there without permission.
flight to all seven continents
Ethan Guo had tried to fly over the seven continents alone to collect donations for cancer research when he landed in part of the Antarctic, which Chile claims as part of his territorial area. The public prosecutor accused him of giving the air traffic control wrong information about his site.
Agreement on the suspension of the procedures
On Monday, a judge approved an agreement between GUO's lawyers and the public prosecutor. Accordingly, the procedure is suspended, provided GUO donates $ 30,000 to a children's cancer within 30 days. In addition, he has to leave the country and cannot return to Chile for three years.
costs for security measures and maintenance
The Chilean prosecutor Cristián Crisosto informed the reporters that Guo and his plane were still in an antarctic area. He also has to cover the costs for “aircraft security and personal maintenance”.
False flight schedule and course deviation
The Chilean authorities reported that Guo submitted a wrong flight plan and started from Carlos Ibáñez del Campo in the South Chilean city of Punta Arenas as the sole passenger and crew member with a Cessna 182Q aircraft, registered as N182WT. During the flight he left the course towards Antarctica.
complications during flight
GUO's lawyer said that the young pilot had to struggle with “complications” during the flight. "When he was already in the air, he began to experience a number of complications," said Karina Ulloa. Guo claims that he had carried out an exploration flight to check whether he could follow this route or not.
fundraising campaign for cancer research
GUO, whose website indicates that he wanted to collect a million dollars for cancer research by “becoming the first person to overflow all seven continents alone”, has been transferred from continent to continent for more than one million Instagram follower live since September last year.
