Pope Francis warns: The world is facing a planetary crisis!
The Vatican has once again drawn attention to itself by appointing a bishop. Pope Francis has appointed Herman Quinto Abcede, a 59-year-old cleric, as the new bishop of Daet in the Philippines. The decision is part of a series of 27 bishop appointments announced during the pope's hospitalization. Although such appointments usually take a long time to prepare, they still need to receive final approval from the Pope. On Sunday, Cardinal Secretary of State Pietro Parolin and his deputy, Archbishop Edgar Pena Parra, visited the Pope at Gemelli Hospital to discuss important official business, such as kathpress reported.
The challenge of the polycrisis
In another twist, Pope Francis informed members of the Pontifical Academy for Life about current global challenges in a written message. He spoke of a “planetary crisis” that is affecting the world in many ways. This “polycrisis” includes the problems of wars, climate change, energy issues, epidemics, migration and technological developments, which he says are dangerously intertwined. During a meeting of scientists, theologians and historians on March 3 and 4, the Pope encourages an urgent examination of our worldview. “If we don’t rethink, we risk not learning the important lessons from the Corona crisis,” said Francis. He warns that blind progress in the spirit of global markets undermines humanity and warns that only through collective efforts can real solutions be found Catholic News Agency reported.
