Hotel in nature: The best new high -rise worldwide

In Singapore, the Pan Pacific Orchard, a newly designed high-rise, which recently from the Council Buildings and Urban Habitat (Ctbuh) was awarded the best new high -rise in the world. The impressive structure with a height of 140 meters is characterized by tropical plants that grow up on the huge pillars and hang down from the upper levels. Here the guests relax at a lagoon -like swimming pool, surrounded by lush green, away from the scorching lunch sun.

a hotel in the middle of nature

The CTBUH describes the Pan Pacific Orchard as a "Hotel in Nature" that demonstrates a "groundbreaking approach to high -density urbanity". Despite the high award, the extensive architecture of the 461 -foot structure looks surprisingly intimate. "You do not experience the hotel as a very large building, but rather on a neighborly scale," explains architect Hong Wei Phua von Woha, the responsible planning office while leading CNN through the system.

innovative interior design

The unique design includes a series of L-shaped volume that divide the tower into four different areas and thereby create space for urban gardens and green areas. Each of the four terraces is based on a different motif that is connected to Singapore's tropical environment: forests, beaches, gardens and clouds, in ascending order.

public spaces for the community

The ground floor terrace, known as the "Forest Terrace", is the only one that is accessible to passers-by. It offers a fascinating water feature and houses numerous plant species, many of which are at home on the island. Phua describes it as a public commitment that stands out the design of conventional "podium and tower" high-rise buildings. "Instead of getting into a podium - an internalized room or a labyrinth of rooms and corridors - you enter a forest room," he explains and calls it an "oasis of calm" in the hectic hustle and bustle of Orchards, Singapore's famous shopping district.

Discover the terraces

When you climb through the building, you will find the raised "beach terrace" that offers a pool with palm trees; The "Garden Terrace" with walking paths around a rectangular lawn; And the "Cloud Terrace" on the upper floors, which serves as a green event area with a view of the city.
