BTS members end their military service and plan comeback 2023

chuncheon, South Korea-AP-The K-Pop superstars RM and V are the latest members of BTS who were released from the South Korean army after completing their mandatory service. On Tuesday, each of them saluated in the city of Chuncheon, while around 200 fans, some of whom came from Mexico, Turkey and Brazil, cheered.

Reina Lorena Quintero Sevilla spent almost 18 hours on the plane of Mexico City. "I swear that it didn't feel that long because we are so excited to be here and to experience the boys in their discharge. We are so happy to be in South Korea, in our boys' homes that we love and worship," she said.

BTS members and their military service

RM and V started their service in December 2023, while three other BTS members-Jin, J-Hope and Suga-had already done several months of their military service. Jin, the oldest member of the K-Pop super group, was released from the army in June 2024. J-Hope followed in October, while Jimin and Jungkook are planned for Wednesday.

Suga and his duties

The seventh member, Suga, does his service as a social service provider, which is an alternative to military service. Its discharge is planned for this month.

The seven BTS members plan to unite as a group in 2025. In South Korea, all defensive men between the ages of 18 and 28 are legally obliged to do military service for 18 to 21 months. This system is supposed to counteract aggression of the rival North Korea.

special exceptions in military service

The law grants special exceptions for athletes, classic and traditional musicians as well as ballet dancers who have won high -quality prices in certain competitions and are considered beneficial for national reputation. However, K-Pop stars and other entertainers are not affected by such privileges.

Legal regulations for K-pop stars

The BTS members were able to postpone their service after the National Assembly revised the Military Service Act that enables K-Pop stars to postpone their military service up to the age of 30. There were heated public debates on whether BTS members should be granted special exceptions until the management agency of the group in 2022 announced that all seven members would fulfill their duty.
