New mobility concept for Urfahr West: Less traffic, more quality of life!

In Linz, the new Danube Valley Bridge ensures clearly noticeable changes in the flow of traffic. According to a current traffic count of the state of Upper Austria, the numbers on the heavily loaded Nibelungen Bridge were reduced by up to 7,000 vehicles per day within just one week. This was announced on December 19, 2024 at a city council meeting of Vice Mayor Martin Hajart (ÖVP). The decline can be traced back to the opening of the bridge, which was released on November 15, 2024 for motorized private transport. It is particularly noteworthy that the average traffic fell from 38,000 to over 31,000 vehicles a day, which increases the quality of life in the neighboring districts, such as the MeinDärzirk reported.

past meets the future

As part of these measures, a comprehensive mobility concept for the Urfahr West district is also worked out. This concept should not only minimize the traffic load, but also increase the quality of stay in the quarter. The planning includes a pedestrian zone in Reindlstraße and a meeting zone in the main street. Vice Mayor Hajart announced that the first steps should be implemented in early 2025 in the form of traffic surveys and citizen participation. According to the forecasts, the traffic will continue to be controlled by closing the barrier on the upper Donaustrasse during the morning, which means additional relief for the city center, as linz.at

Hajart is optimistic that the changes achieved by the Danube Valley Bridge and the measures that are made will contribute to improving the flow of traffic and increasing traffic safety. This will not only bring advantages for drivers, but also for pedestrians and cyclists who are supposed to benefit from the planned new cycle paths. The focus is on making the city a living space worth living for all residents.
