Final line to Doping scandal: Seidenberg returns in 2025!

The National Anti Doping Agency (NADA) has announced that the case against the former German ice hockey player Yannic Seidenberg has been completed with regard to a doping violation. This is the result of an agreement between NADA, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and the 40-year-old Seidenberg, which was made in the form of a so-called dispute settlement agreement.

Last year Seidenberg was occupied by the German Institution for Arbitration (DIS) with a lock of four years, which was retrospectively until mid -September 2026. Thanks to the new agreement, however, the lock will be shortened by 18 months, which enables it to be active in sports again on March 14, 2025. This gives Seidenberg the opportunity to record his work as a coach in ice hockey after his lock.

doping detection and taking substances

The doping incident occurred on January 19, 2022, when testosterone was demonstrated during a training control in Seidenberg's sample. In addition, the NADA found that the player had used the substance DHEA, which is on the list of forbidden anabol androgenic steroids. This type of substances is strictly prohibited in sports due to its performance -enhancing effect and is often mentioned in doping cases.

Yannic Seidenberg, who played for renowned clubs such as the Adler Mannheim and the EHC Red Bull Munich in the German Ice Hockey League (DEL), was able to draw a conclusion with this agreement. His legal assistance was positive about the settlement and the upcoming comeback of his client.

The problem of doping in sport remains a sensitive topic that presents both athletes and sports associations with challenges. While the guidelines of the Wada and similar organizations have to be strictly followed, such cases always create discussions about fairness in the competition and the integrity of sport. It is all the more important that Seidenberg now gets the chance to resume his career as a trainer, which is made possible by the shortened lock.
