FPÖ wins legal dispute: satirical platform has to pay 103,000 euros!

The dispute between the satirical platform "Tagesspresse" and the FPÖ for fake letters has now resulted in a surprising judgment by the Supreme Court (OGH). In April 2023, the "daily press" sent falsified letters to 500 taverns in Lower Austria, which should effectively attack the "tavern bonus" propagated by the FPÖ. Equipped with the logo of the FPÖ, the letters contained absurd suggestions such as a "department to promote patriotic dining culture", which took care of dishes such as the "Andreas-Hofer-Schnitzel" or "Gabalier-Fleischlaberl", which was based on Massive rejection, like 5min.at reported .

Legal consequences for the satirical platform

After a long legal discussion, the OGH decided in favor of the FPÖ and spoke of a "misleading and illegal publication" of the "daily press". This revised the original judgment, which favored the satirical platform. The "daily press" was convicted of bearing the costs associated with the process that amount to a total of around 103,000 euros, including the costs for the publication of the judgments in the "NÖN" and the "district leaves", such as Kurier reports .

Alexander Murlasits, State Partis Secretary of the FPÖ, saw the judgment as "victory for the credibility of the political debate". He emphasized that it was inadmissible to spread untruths under the guise of Satire and to deceive innkeepers. In the future, the FPÖ wants to continue to act against fake news and false reports in order to maintain the integrity of political discussions.
