Selenskyj's urgency: Visit to Ramstein for crucial conversations!
Ramstein, Deutschland - Ukrainian President Wolodymyr Selenskyj announced a visit to Ramstein, Germany. As part of this visit, discussions about further arms deliveries for Ukraine are planned, with the focus in particular on strengthening Ukrainian air defense. These measures should serve to keep the Russian Air Force away and to increase the security of Ukraine. At the meeting in the so-called Ramstein format, bilateral discussions will take place at the level of the Minister of Defense.
The US defense minister Lloyd Austin has also announced his trip to Ramstein, and the expectations are aimed at a new package of US military aid, which is to be provided before the upcoming change of power in Washington on January 20. The Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umjerow is already in Germany to have talks. The Federal Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte and EU foreign representative Kaja Kallas are also expected as participants in the meeting. Ukraine has been fighting against the Russian invasion with western help for almost three years. President Selenskyj nevertheless called for weapons with a greater range to be able to use them against goals in the Russian hinterland, and emphasized that such funds are also needed to move Russia to peace. In connection with other US military aids, Lloyd Austin announced support of around $ 250 million (approx. 225 million euros). In the past few months, the United States has provided several tranches of military aid after the congress had released $ 61 billion (56.2 billion euros) in mid-April.
