Zelensky calls Putin a fool about rocket duel

The Ukrainian President Wolodymyr Selenskyj reacted to the latest statements by Russian President Vladimir Putin during his year end press conference. Selenskyj described the Kremlin boss in an online comment as a "fool", after Putin bragged about the capabilities of Oreshnik, a new nuclear weapon-capable ballistic rocket that Russia recently fired on the Ukrainian city of Dnipro.

Putin's threat and provocative remarks

During the press conference, Putin repeated his threat of attacking Ukraine again with the Oreshnik rocket. He suggested to fire this as a test for the air defense systems delivered by the west on Kiev. "Let her suggest a technological attempt-a kind of high-tech duel of the 21st century," said Putin, adding that Ukraine should concentrate its air and rocket defense forces there while Russia fires the rocket to see what happens.

selenskyjs clear answer

Selenskyj shared a section of these comments on platform X and commented: "People die, and he finds it 'interesting' ... fool." In a similar manner he also expressed himself in Ukrainian.

Putin's view of the war

At the press conference,

Putin made equally careless comments about the war in Ukraine and indented that the war made life more interesting. "When everything is calm and stable, it gets boring. You need some action. As soon as the action begins, everything evaporates: seconds, balls. Unfortunately, the balls whistle now," he said.

year-end press conference and discussions with Trump

The lengthy press conference of Putin included a public question and call session and phone calls with citizens. A central topic was the war against Ukraine, with Putin emphasizing the recent successes in this grueling position war. He also explained that he had heard of the newly elected US President Donald Trump in the past four years, but "ready" was for possible discussions, as the new government in Washington will be awaiting a negotiated termination of the Ukraine War.

Putin's statements about negotiations

When asked what he could offer the newly elected president Trump at a meeting, Putin replied: "First of all, I don't know when we will meet. Because he said nothing. I haven't spoken to him in the past four years. Of course I have been ready for it at all times and I am ready for a meeting if he wants it."

Russia's position in negotiations

When he was asked whether Russia would be in a weaker negotiation position due to the recent setbacks in Syria and on the battlefield in Ukraine, Putin replied: "You said that this conversation will take place when I am in a weakened condition ... And you, as well as the people who pay your salaries in the USA, would be very wish for Russia in a weaker position."
