Taiwan is testing a new Himars rocket system from the USA

On Monday, Taiwan tested a new rocket system delivered by the USA for the first time, which was widely used in the Ukraine conflict against Russia. In the event of a conflict, this technology could also be used to hit goals in China. The United States are the most important armor supplier of Taiwan, although there are no formal diplomatic relationships. In view of the increasing military threat from China, which carries out several rounds of military exercises to underpin its sovereignty claims across the island, this development is particularly important.

Taiwan's support from the USA

Taiwan has acquired a total of 29 high -precision rocket launcher systems from Lockheed Martin, which are known as High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (Himars). The first part of 11 systems was delivered last year, the rest will be expected until next year. These systems have a range of around 300 kilometers, which means that they could reach coastal goals in the southern province of Fujian in China if there is a conflict.

test in the Jiupeng test center

The US-trained Taiwanese military team fired the rockets from the Jiupeng Test Center on a remote part of the Pacific coast. The officer Ho Hsiang-Yih told the reporters that the manufacturer's US staff was on site to solve any problems. "I believe that this rocket festival shows our citizens the military will to protect the security of the country and preserve our beautiful home country," he added.

Himars and the military situation

Himars is one of the most important strikes in Ukraine and was used several times during the war with Russia. In March, Australia announced that it had received the first two of 42 Himars starting vehicles. The test took place one day after Taiwan had found another "joint fighting patrol" of the Chinese military near the island in which aircraft and warships were involved.

Taiwan's democratic efforts

The democratically elected government of Taiwan rejects China's sovereignty claims and emphasizes that only the island's population can decide on their future.
