Shadow ships in sight: European states intensify control!

A dramatic step towards containing the Russian shadow fleet was announced by twelve European countries. At a meeting of the heads of state and government of the Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF) in Tallinn, Great Britain, Denmark, Sweden, Poland, Finland and Estonia discussed measures to control and monitor ships that operate in their waters. This initiative follows the latest sanctions of the EU, which prohibits 52 other ships in European ports in order to limit Russian energy exports and reduce the financial means of Moscow for the Ukraine War, such as reported.

The participants instruct their sea authorities to check the insurance documents of suspicious ships that drive through the English Channel, the Danish Sea, the Finnish Gulfs and the ÖRESund. Estonia's head of government Kristen Michal warned of the risks that run out of the shadow fleet and explained that these ships were often outdated and not sufficiently insured. The coordinated effort aims to disrupt the illegal operations of the shadow fleet and increase the costs for Russia, while the environmental risks are insulated. Michal also expressed concern about possible environmental disasters that could arise from the lack of safety of these ships, as already reported the Estonian government

These measures are part of the broader strategy of holding Russia responsible for his attempts to circumvent western sanctions. The countries in question emphasize the need to increase the pressure on Moscow and prevent its illegal activities in order to protect European security and the environment. The information collected about the suspicious ships is assessed together to develop effective countermeasures.
