Coalition chaos: ÖVP and FPÖ fail, the future of the government uncertain!

Vorarlberg, Österreich - The blue-black coalition negotiations between the FPÖ and the ÖVP have failed. Herbert Kickl, the FPÖ chairman, covered the initiative application for government formation on Wednesday evening. In his statement, he blamed the ÖVP for failure because the FPÖ had compromises in important points. The ÖVP, on the other hand, represented by the first Secretary General Alexander Pröll, sees the fault of Kickl's "power rush and uncompromising". Eva Hammerer from the Greens criticized the failed talks and sees it a chance for a government without right -wing extremists, as Vol.at reports.

The political reactions on the failure of the talks are diverse. Mario Leiter, the SPÖ boss in Vorarlberg, was rather unexplained about the outcome and described the negotiations as not sustainable. He called for a quick solution, while the NEOS emphasized their willingness to constructive discussions and are open to a pro-European majority of government. In view of the explanations, it could now be difficult for the ÖVP and the SPÖ to find a new solution, since Bablers from the SPÖ reject a clear responsibility, which continues to cloud the view of a traffic light coalition, as the Kurier reported.

future perspectives and possible forms of government

In view of the situation, an expert government or a minority government between the ÖVP and the NEOS is now being discussed. Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen could also use experts to enable a stable government that may be used to pre -negotiated programs. Such a constellation could ensure stability at short notice, while new elections that are supported by the FPÖ are still in the room, especially since they can increase in surveys. The ÖVP, on the other hand, is bad at 18.4 percent, which makes the possibility of a quick new election rather unlikely, even if it is technically possible. The Vol.at article emphasized that the options for stabilization by expert governments or a minority government could be of crucial importance in order to avoid political chaos.
