Ollie’s takes over 15 Big Lots branches: bargains for the neighborhood!

In a dramatic turning point for retail, Ollie’s Bargain Outlets took over 15 former big lots branches! This exciting message comes after the bankruptcy of Big Lots, which was announced in September. Ollie’s stand out as the winner in an auction for eight branches that are part of the second wave of closures. The company had previously secured seven branches in Wisconsin, Georgia, Louisiana and Illinois.

The new branches that are in strategically important locations still depend on the approval by the insolvency court and the usual final conditions. The locations are:

  • 3105 Berlin Turnpike, Newington, Connecticut
  • 2806 Frontage Road, Warsaw, Indiana
  • 750 Perry Ave., Big Rapids, Michigan
  • 4201 S. Noland Road, Independence, Missouri
  • 1170 Indiana Ave., Saint Marys, Ohio
  • 1410 S. First St., Union City, Tennessee
  • 303 U.S. Route 4 East, Rutland, Vermont
  • 699 S. Green Bay Road, Neenah, Wisconsin

Ollie’s expansion strategy

Eric van der Valk, President of Ollie’s, was enthusiastic about the takeover: "We are again very satisfied that we have won the auction for eight additional locations. These businesses fit perfectly with Ollie’s in terms of size, rental conditions and customer emission." With a total of 545 branches in 31 states, Ollie’s plans to open 50 new shops this year and to close only two locations. The discount chain is known for your bargains and offers a variety of products, including household goods, food, books and toys.

While Big Lots continues to close hundreds of shops and embarks on the hands of Nexus Capital Management, Ollie’s shows that there are still opportunities for growth and expansion in the world of retail. The takeover of the big lots branches could be a crucial step for the future of Ollie’s!
