Throwing Christmas tree: A bizarre party for the whole family!
On Sunday, January 12th, a bizarre event takes place in Aßmannshardt: the Christmas tree. The event begins at 2 p.m. on the sports field and is carried out by Tanja Schell, the organizer of Tani’s rolling ice cream ball. The idea for this competition comes from her partner, who was inspired by a video about Christmas tree throwing.
Five Christmas trees of the same size and equally heavy Christmas trees are available. Each participant has the opportunity to give up two litters, with the longest litter decided who wins the price. To ensure the safety of the participants, gloves and safety glasses are made available, and the participants are required to pack the tree properly. In addition, warm drinks and food are offered.
tradition of the Christmas tree throw
The origin of the Christmas tree throw is located in Scandinavia, where it is celebrated as part of the Knutfest. This festival marks the end of the Christmas season, and the disused Christmas trees are traditionally decorated and disposed of on January 13th. In Weidenthal, the Christmas tree-wide world championships have been held since 2007, such as rheinpfalz.de reported.
At the World Cups in Weidenthal, which have been organized by FC Wacker for 22 years, participants can compete in various disciplines, such as high, wide and spin throw. As a rule, these events attract around 2000 visitors and offer around 150 participants the opportunity to measure their strength. Participants who have their disused Christmas tree for combustion also receive a mulled wine free of charge.
Frank Schwender, reigning men's world champion, who holds the record of 25.01 meters, lasts last, while Margret Klein-Raber is the favorite for women. The two events offer a unique way to have fun and be part of a festive tradition at the same time.
