On the night of December 21, 2024, a devastating residential building fire broke out in Weimar, in which a single-family home and an adjacent shed were completely engulfed in flames. According to initial reports from Thuringia24 were published, the professional fire brigade received an alarm about the fire on Bahnhofstrasse shortly after midnight. The situation quickly escalated when the flames spread from a shed to the house.

Despite the massive efforts of several volunteer fire brigades from the area and the professional fire brigade, it was not possible to extinguish the fire. Firefighters battled difficult conditions, including highly dangerous temperatures, as a nearby gas tank had to be heavily cooled to avoid an explosion. Unfortunately, they were unable to prevent the house from completely burning out and the roof from collapsing. Two residents, a 63-year-old and a 59-year-old, suffered minor injuries DAY24 confirmed.

The property damage is estimated at several hundred thousand euros and the police have begun an investigation into the cause of the fire. At the time of reporting, the exact reasons for the fire outbreak remained unclear, as the investigation of the fire site will only be possible after a thorough risk assessment. The extinguishing work continued until the early hours of the morning, while the emergency services were still fighting embers and ensuring the safety of the surrounding buildings.
