Father drives drunk in trucks: 13-year-old seriously injured!
Aschbach-Markt, Österreich - On June 12, 2025, the A1 at Aschbach-Markt, Amstetten district, occurred a serious traffic accident. A 42-year-old man from Steyr collided with his car with a saddle vehicle around 8:20 p.m. when he was traveling in the direction of Salzburg. The driver's car cocked through the impact and crashed into the side cable rail. While the driver got away with minor injuries and was brought to the Pyhrn Eisenwurz Clinic Steyr, his 13-year-old son suffered serious injuries in the passenger seat and was flown to the same hospital by an emergency helicopter.
The incident occurred, although an alkomatt test was carried out at the 42-year-old that was negative. However, the driver refused to take a drug test, which the police led to the assumption that he could have been on the move in the "impaired state". As a result, the driver was reported to the district administrative authority and the St. Pölten public prosecutor's office. The 64-year-old driver of the truck was not injured. The accident site led to a full closure of the West Autobahn in the direction of Salzburg from 8:35 p.m. to 9:10 p.m., which resulted in a backlog of about two kilometers.
Inadequate drug detection in road traffic
The study suggests implementing suitable devices and processes in order to pull drug drivers more efficiently out of circulation. The current situation in Austria proves the need for action to improve the drug detection, based on European role models. The dramatic incident on the A1 could also serve as an impetus to do more for security on the streets and to implement suitable measures against drug drivers.
