Teenager steals mother's car: chase through Hanover!

In Lower Saxony, specifically in Hanover, there was a spectacular chase between a 15-year-old teenager and the police in the early hours of January 5, 2025. The incident happened around 4:30 a.m. on the B3 in the direction of Messe. According to police reports, a patrol noticed a VW Golf that was driving in a conspicuously snaking pattern and was traveling in the left lane of a two-lane road.

When the police signaled to stop, the driver ignored the stop signal and fled the city at speeds of up to 100 km/h. The chase lasted about one kilometer and ended at the intersection of Wülfeler-Straße/Emslandstraße, where the Golf was safely stopped. A 14-year-old friend of the driver was in the passenger seat of the car. Both young people appeared calm and surprised during the inspection.

Origin of the escape

The investigation revealed that the 15-year-old had secretly taken the car keys from his mother, who at the time had no idea what she was up to and believed her son was sleeping at home. Police reported that there were no injuries or damage to the vehicle. Nevertheless, criminal proceedings were initiated against the 15-year-old for a prohibited motor vehicle race, which underlines the ongoing efforts to investigate and prevent such incidents, as already noted NDR was to be read.

After checking, the police brought the two teenagers safely back home. The situation, which came as a surprise to both the young people and the emergency services, is now being further investigated. At the same time, the question arises as to the security of vehicle keys in the home in order to avoid such dangerous situations in the future. This is particularly relevant as the incident can be viewed in the wider context of juvenile crime and careless driving behaviour, as well news38.de reported.
