A tragic accident occurred on Sunday afternoon on the Innsbruck Nordkette when a 30-year-old paraglider crashed during a spectacular maneuver. The man had taken the Nordkette cable car to Hafelekar around 2:20 p.m. and was planning to fly into the valley on his speed glider. Shortly after takeoff at 2:30 p.m. he attempted a double roll, which had fatal consequences. Several eyewitnesses to the accident immediately administered first aid and climbed down to the victim. When rescue workers, including an emergency helicopter, arrived, resuscitation efforts continued, but all help was in vain. The man died at the scene of the accident from his serious injuries. Police confirmed his body was subsequently recovered by helicopter.
