Large police campaign on Reumannplatz: Five arrests and drugs secured!

Reumannplatz, 1100 Wien, Österreich - On July 16, 2025, an extensive focus control of the police took place in Vienna favorites, which concentrated in particular on the Reumannplatz. The aim of this campaign was to take action against gun ownership, addictive crime and illegal stay. This mission was carried out by several police units, including the city police command Favorites, the standby unit, the police service dog unit and the Vienna State Criminal Police Office.

The control lasted from 2:00 p.m. to 02:00 a.m. and is part of the regular measures, which have been carried out since the entry into force of the Waffenbotszone . Interior Minister Gerhard Karner (ÖVP) emphasized the effectiveness of this prohibition zone and the need to maintain the control pressure in order to combat youth crime.

results of the focus campaign

In the controlled campaign, five people were arrested and five ads according to the Suntumatic Act. In addition, 54 people were identified, and the police secured 31.75 grams of cannabis and a folding knife. Other measures included the issuing of a ban on entering and a complaint about the disregard for the weapons ban.

Especially in the past few months there have been several knife attacks around the Reumannplatz, despite the existing ban on weapons. Karner reported that a total of 187 weapons, including 131 knives, have been ensured since this zone came into force. This illustrates the persistent problem in connection with youth crime and violence in the region.

growing youth crime in Vienna

According to the current figures, the number of young people suspects in Austria has dropped by around five percent. In Vienna, on the other hand, the number of young people rose by nine percent. This development is worrying and shows the need for targeted measures. Since 2022 there has been a special operational group to combat youth crime, which has already reported over 2,470 minors and arrested 147.

The reports on ethnically motivated conflicts between youth gangs are increasing, while the police are considered an enemy by them. The most common crimes of minors include robberies in which the goal is largely defenseless. Minor perpetrators are also increasingly used for criminal activities such as drug trafficking and car break -ins.

The interministerial working group to combat youth crime, which was launched in March 2024, focused on these topics. She focused on minor intensive offenders who have committed over 200 crimes in the past. In order to address this problem, a special project for the close -meshed care of young perpetrators in Vienna was started.

In view of the current developments in the city, the police are expected to continue to take measures to combat juvenile crime and to ensure the security of citizens.

The current situation requires a comprehensive and coordinated approach to counteract the causes of youth crime and make public space safer again.

In addition to police work, social responsibility is also required to offer affected young people a perspective and to dissuade them from delinquent behavior.
