In the early morning hours of the first Christmas holiday, on December 25, 2024, unknown perpetrators blew up an ATM of the Raiffeisenbank in Veitsrodt, a small municipality in the Birkenfeld district. The Trier police confirmed that the explosion caused an enormous property damage of over 200,000 euros, with the bank building being significantly damaged. Residents were woken up by a loud bang when the explosion shook the night at around 4:00 a.m. The ATM itself was completely destroyed and there was also considerable damage to an adjacent building, such as Sol.de not.
