A careful tip from a witness led to the arrest of a 34-year-old man from Slovakia in Oberndorf, St. Pölten district, on Friday, December 6, 2024. At around 9:45 a.m., the woman observed the suspect gaining access to a residential complex and going into the basement area. Before he left the location, the witness gave a detailed description of his identity, which helped police quickly identify and stop the man. During the subsequent search of his backpack, investigators discovered a number of suspicious items that indicated plans for another crime. Among the items found were a Mini-Flex, various keys, a blackjack, a small amount of cannabis, a scale as well as gloves and a balaclava. The officers also found two ID cards belonging to a woman and a woman's watch. This suggests that the Slovakian man may have been making preparations for another break-in.
After the arrest, the accused was taken to the local prison on the orders of the St. Pölten public prosecutor's office, where he remains pending further investigations. This hasty approach by the police and the courageous actions of the witness may have prevented something worse from happening and removed the suspect in time.
