Ex-policeman behind bars: drug operation shocks Ecuador!

A shock announcement came today from Ecuador, where a former high-ranking police chief, Julio César Miño, was arrested in a major drug-fighting operation. Miño, who previously served as head of police in Guayas, was arrested along with three other suspects during the binational operation “Operativo Gran Fénix 52 Gibraltar,” which took place in Ecuador and Spain. Loud Primicias Among those arrested is an active naval officer identified as Captain Galo Manuel Litardo García.

Drug empire smashed

This raid targets an extensive drug network believed to be responsible for the transport of over 7.9 tonnes of cocaine. The drugs were allegedly hidden in containers and financed through legitimate business channels, particularly mining. Another arrested man, known as 'Carlitos', is considered one of the main financiers of drug gangs in Guayas. El Comercio reports that more than $12,000 in cash, as well as cell phones and storage devices, were seized during the arrests in a total of ten households in three provinces.

The arrests have sparked widespread outrage in the region and questions about corruption within the security forces. The incident marks a new low in the fight against drug trafficking in Ecuador, where links between law enforcement and drug cartels are becoming increasingly clear. These events could have far-reaching consequences for police integrity and efforts to combat drug trafficking.
