Vienna under pressure: Double budget ensures growing financial worries!

In a heated debate in the Vienna City Council, the double budget of the city of Vienna is on the brink. City councilor Hanke defended the practice decided some time ago, but emphasized that the next evaluation of the procedure was due. This decision could be crucial in economically uncertain times to enable reasonable management, as did for the years 2022 and 2023. At the same time, the opposition expresses considerable concerns. ÖVP finance spokesman Manfred Juraczka believes that double budgeting limits the flexibility of the city and in turn leads to a "blind flight" in financial planning. Like ORF Vienna reported , warned Grünen-Mandatar Martin Margulies that the deficit could increase to 3.8 billion euros in 2025, which the Vienna "Lücke" in the federal budget illustrates.

Criticism of missing budget transparency

The non -transparency caused by the double budgeting increasingly ensures uncertainty. Club chairman Markus Wölbitsch from the People's Party therefore demands a rethink to guarantee the urgently needed transparency. "The number of proposals of the second budget year are with high uncertainties," warned Juraczka and pointed out that the relevant budget adjustments cannot be discussed in the plenary. This problem was also addressed in the last meeting of the Finance Committee, in which City Councilor Hanke promised to submit a status report in January. As ots the opposition representatives are now becoming more insight into the budget and criticize the government for the current Handling.

In addition, the director of the city tariff, Werner Sedlak, was also unanimously re -ordered for a further term of twelve years in this meeting. Sedlak emphasizes that he and his team will continue to have a vigilant look at the handling of tax funds, which is all the more important in view of the current situation. The citizens of Vienna can only hope that politics will finally ensure more clarity and responsible financial planning.
