Exhibition on Jewish escape after the connection
In the Austrian parliament, visitors can now visit the exhibition "torn out of life". The exhibition tells the story of Jews who had to leave Austria after the connection in 1938 and had to start a new life in foreign countries. The fates of the refugees are told on the basis of everyday objects that they carried during their escape. For example, a folding stool that a woman had to take with her to be able to sit in the park with her child, since it was forbidden to use Jewish people at the time.
The exhibition also shows pictures of the buildings that had to leave the refugees in Vienna and who still shape the cityscape today. This should bring the fates of the Jewish victims of the Nazi regime into the present. The curator, Michael Tal, emphasizes that anti -Semitism is still a current topic today.
The exhibition was designed by the international Holocaust Memorial Yad Vashem, which also provides the exhibits. Visitors still have the opportunity until November 11th to visit the exhibition in the Parliament's pillared hall.
Further information on the exhibition can be found in parliamentary correspondence No. 990/2024.
