Pink solidarity: Parliament sets a sign against breast cancer with pink ribbon loop
The striking parliament building in Vienna has had a new, pink look since September 30th. For the 14th time since 2011, the facade of the high house is decorated with the "Pink Ribbon", a pink loop that is considered a sign of solidarity in the fight against breast cancer worldwide. The campaign goes back to an initiative of the late National Council President Barbara Prammer and is now being continued by the Second National Council President Doris Bures.
"It is much more than mere tradition," explains Bures. By hanging the "Pink Ribbon", the parliament wants to express its solidarity with patients, relatives and all people affected by breast cancer. At the same time, awareness of the disease and the detabection of breast cancer should be promoted.
The pink loop will be shown on the facade of the parliamentary building for three days. The campaign falls every year around October 1, the international breast cancer day. During this time, “Pink Ribbons” worldwide is worn as a visible symbol of solidarity with breast cancer patients.
Further information on "Pink Ribbon" and women's health offers the parliament on its website. It is important that the health of women does not take a back seat even in times of crises and that the focus is still on the education of breast cancer.
