Lawyers: anchor rights for climate refugees now!

Legal scholarly alarmed! German and international lawyers raise the alarm and demand the adaptation of the Geneva Refugee Convention to meet the increasing figures of "climate refugees". Climate change fundamentally changes the face of migration, experts predict. "Over the next ten to 15 years, we will have to expect an unprecedented mass of climate refugees," warns migration expert Martin Manzel. Not only people who flee from war should enter German soil. According to the legal community, it is high time to revolutionize the existing legal system.

Time urges! The German specialist lawyer Martin Manzel makes it clear that the Geneva Convention urgently needs to be updated. Climate change as a cause of the migration goes around it, and the call for new legal protective mechanisms for climate refugees is loud. But not only Manzel is pushing for changes. Maria Kalin from the Migration Rights Committee of the German Lawyers' Association even wants to go one step further - a new international agreement is needed, she demands uncompromisingly. Climate change knows no limits, and the existing definitions of the Geneva Convention are inadequate to depict reality.

Europe in the crosshair of the migration

Italian urgency! Vitalba Azzolini, a respected lawyer from Italy, underpins the urgency of the situation. In their opinion, extreme climate events are the new drivers of migration movements. "All of Europe will experience more migration in the future," emphasizes Azzolini and warns of the legal gaps that the European countries urgently need to close. The time for discussions is over! Acting is the order of the day before it's too late!
