Budget debate in the Rhein-Erft district: SPD urgently demands measures!

On Thursday, November 28th, the hot discussion about the budget of the Rhein-Erft district will be sparked in the Bergheim district house! The SPD brings 17 applications into the debate, while a total of 68 suggestions are on the table. Group leader Dierk Timm proudly announces: "The district administrator complies with our claim and also the mayor and actually removes considerable funds from the reserves to relieve the municipalities." But the Social Democrats are far from satisfied!

The SPD urgently demands money for a "housing bauralization company", which is supposed to act as a partner of cities and companies in order to improve the dramatic living situation in a circle. "The situation of tenants in the district is dramatic," emphasizes Timm. But that's not all! The application list also includes the long overdue construction of bike paths and the promotion of a midwife outpatient clinic in Bergheim and in the southern district. The SPD also wants to clarify how the cuts in the state funds for social offers can be compensated for at the district level.

IT security and women's shelter in focus

Another hot topic is the security of the administration-it. After the hacker attack on the IT service provider Westfalen-IT in September 2023, which paralyzed the immigration authorities in Bergheim and Kerpen, the SPD sees an urgent need for action. Deputy Daniel Dobbelstein warns: "There is no strategy and no concepts to prevent a similar incident." DIE LINKE/BSW/+ also calls for the construction of a new women's shelter in the Rhein-Erft district, since the capacities for women seeking protection are not sufficient. The district council will decide on the household on December 12th, and the tension is increasing!
