memories of the attack
The fateful day of the attack began when a right -wing extremist tried to storm the synagogue in Halle during the celebrations to Jom Kippur. This attempt failed because the door of the synagogue was well secured. In his anger, however, the attacker killed a passer-by on the street and then found another victim in the nearby snack-a 20-year-old man he also murdered. During his escape, he injured other people before he could finally be stopped by the police.
The perpetrator was sentenced to life imprisonment with subsequent preventive detention. This judgment throws a shadow on society and illustrates the necessary vigilance against extremism. In Halle, posters were placed on the occasion of the five -year commemoration of the attack to keep the memory of the victims awake. This is not only a gesture of commemoration, but also an appeal to the public, not to forget such acts.
Haseloff’s appeal and the memory of this tragic day are part of a larger initiative that aims to raise awareness of the dangers of anti -Semitism in Germany. School teachers, politicians and society in general are called up to take a clear attitude and to actively stand up against anti -Semitism in educational institutions and public forums.
The events of Halle are a warning memory of the horrors of right -wing extremism and the importance of religious freedom and tolerance. At a time when hatred and violence find more and more space in society, the voices of the memorials and survivors are more important than ever. The demand not to give an anti -Semitism is not only an appeal to the politicians, but also to each individual to show civil courage and to stand up against intolerance. There is no way around it - together we have to keep the teachings of the past in mind and fight against any form of discrimination and violence.
The exhibitions and memorial events are characterized by international solidarity against anti -Semitism. As Reiner Haseloff emphasizes: "We have to act decisively to promote the values of freedom, equality and respect for all people."
