FPÖ members justified controversial burial song: statement and reaction
In a recent development, the FPÖ rejected the criticism of the participation of some of its members of a funeral in which a song was sung that was used by the National Socialists' SS in the past. The party emphasized that all allegations of a National Socialist attitude are decidedly rejected. The FPÖ, Harald Stefan, Martin Graf and Norbert Nemeth's MPs, defended their presence at the funeral and explained that the song "If everyone becomes unfaithful" was sung in a form written in 1814, which is also known in other contexts. They described the attempts to scandalize their participation in the event as politically motivated, especially in the run -up to the National Council election.
It was emphasized that the song sung contained all four stanzas in contrast to the version of the SS and was expressly sung at the request of the deceased. The assumption that it was a version changed by the SS was referred to as infamous and incorrect. The affected members of the FPÖ face possible investigations and take legal action against the author of the allegations.
The party also condemned the secret films of a private event such as a funeral as a reprehensible taboo break. This incident has led to discussions and shows the tense political atmosphere in Austria.
