US government ignores court decision: Venezuelans deported!
El Salvador, El Salvador - The US government has deprived 200 supposed members of a Venezuelan gait, the "Tren de Aragua", despite a court order. Karoline Leavitt, press spokeswoman for the White House, pointed out that a single judge was not authorized to block the expulsion, and explained that the United States was facing an "invasion" by a criminal organization that was related to kidnapping and order murders. President Donald Trump had referred to the little -known "Alien Enemies Act" of 1798, which allowed foreigners to be deported under certain conditions, but found that these legal framework conditions should not be taken into account in peace times, which was sharply criticized by human rights organizations such as the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU). The judge James Boasberg then ordered a preliminary stop of all deportations. Nevertheless, the first 238 deported were brought to El Salvador, where President Nayib Bukele confirmed the arrival of the men and published pictures of the deported ones, as they are brought out of a plane under strict safety presence.
The deported ones were housed in the Terrorism Confinement Center, a prison that can take up to 40,000 inmates, with the possibility of extending the detention period of one year. This happened, even though a US court has arranged to examine the case. While the judge asked for the return of migrants to the USA, Bukele seemed to trace the situation with a winking comment when he spread his position on social media. In a Twitter contribution, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio Bukele thanked for his support in this procedure and underlined the important role of the president in combating organized crime.
The situation raises questions about the legal powers of judges regarding foreign policy. Experts like Patrick Eddington from the Cato Institute described the government's procedure as an unprecedented and a radical test of the American legal system. The public and legal pressure on the government to check the processes could increase in the coming weeks, while the legal implications of the deportations are still in focus.
