Coalition negotiations: FPÖ urges radical changes in Carinthia!
In the current coalition negotiations between the FPÖ and the ÖVP, there is a clash, which is difficult to understand for many observers. The FPÖ raises demands that can fundamentally intervene in Austrian foreign policy, including the exit from the WHO pandemic contract. Andreas Scherwitzl, a prominent politician of the ÖVP, critically commented on these demands. "No sensible person would come up with the idea of ending international economic overfeiters," said Scherwitzl in an interview with "Klick" Carinthia, and he described the plans of the FPÖ as "rough nonsense".
coalition dynamics and power games
The political move of the FPÖ in Styria, where it wins the ÖVP as a junior partner, also attracts attention. According to the press, the decision to coalition with the ÖVP and not described it as clear and strategic with the SPÖ. FPÖ boss Mario Kunasek emphasized the need to meet the will of voters. In addition, the party analysis is said to have shown that the FPÖ benefited from an influx of former ÖVP voters, which strengthens the influence of the ÖVP. At a time when the other federal states - Upper Austria, Lower Austria, Salzburg and Vorarlberg - are already ruled by the FPÖ and the ÖVP, Styria continues this pattern with even more concise variation.
Despite the logically designated merging, not all hurdles are overcome. Evidence of potential conflicts in areas such as social and asylum issues also became loud from the FPÖ itself. "With the ÖVP, we would be easier in the social and asylum area, with the SPÖ at the lead hospital," said Kunasek about the negotiations. In order to meet the challenges of the state budget and to discuss the necessary austerity measures, FPÖ and ÖVP have already created a timetable for their negotiations. The first theme cluster will deal with "work, economy & infrastructure", followed by a focus on "Health & Care" on December 12th. The talks begin today and the election of the new state government is planned for December 18, as "Die Presse" reports.
