Elections in Salzburg: SPÖ is taking over more and more mayoral offices!

After the latest local elections in Göllersdorf, the ÖVP loses the absolute majority in the local council and now needs a coalition partner. In the city, the People's Party is eleven of the 23 mandates and, together with the SPÖ, has recorded talks to formalize cooperation. These in-depth negotiations are to start next week, such as Noen

As part of the elections in Salzburg, a similar picture is shown. The ÖVP, which is known to be the strongest party at the local level, has lost the mayoral offices in numerous traditionally black communities. The Social Democrats have currently taken control in most district capitals. This takes place in parallel to a historical high flight of the mayors: for the first time, 14 women are in office with 14 women, which increases the woman's note to 11.8 percent. This is a clear upward trend compared to previous years, even if the ÖVP continues to lead the top with 87 out of 119 mayors, which is the lowest level since the introduction of direct election in 1994, such as Press describes.

The ÖVP suffered particularly painful defeats in cities such as St. Johann im Pongau and Neumarkt on Wallersee, where the SPÖ replaced the incumbent. While the People's Party in some regions still retains the majority, there is still no trend towards strengthening social democrats and women in management positions. In this context, all eyes are on the upcoming coalition negotiations in Göllersdorf, which could play a crucial role in the future political orientation of the region.
