A dramatic judgment caused excitement in the Vienna Court of Criminal Court yesterday: the former FPÖ National Councilor Hans-Jörg Jenewein was sentenced to 12 months of imprisonment for violations of the weapons law and abuse of office. At the same time, he and the former chief inspector of the Federal Office for the Office for the Protection of the Constitution and the fight against terrorism (BVT), Egisto Ott, were acquitted of further allegations. He has been investigated since 2017, and the allegations are serious: he is accused of having passed on secret information to the Russian domestic secret service FSB, an assertion that Ott vehemently denies. The National Council of the People's Party, Andreas Hanger, commented on the situation and demanded more clarity: "With today's judgment, the proceedings against Egisto Ott have not been completed.
