Fußi fails because of signatures – SPÖ personnel crisis looms!
Rudolf Fußi, the PR consultant, clearly missed his goal of collecting the required 14,000 signatures for a direct election of the SPÖ chairmanship. In total, Fußi collected over 41,000 signatures, but only 10,257 of them were real votes from SPÖ members, as he announced at a press conference on Tuesday. Fußi decided not to hand over the signatures in order to save both himself and the party unnecessary difficulties. “The result is disappointing for me,” he said, adding that the rules of the game must be adhered to, which the SPÖ considers to be decided in this matter. Federal Managing Director Klaus Seltenheim explained in a statement that without official verification, no reliable statements can be made about the supporters.
The consequences for Fußi
The attempt to confront SPÖ leader Andreas Babler ends in failure for Fußi. In his assessment, Fußi stated: “More than 40,000 people have signed for a restart of the SPÖ,” but reality leaves little room for interpretation. Reports circulating so far have suggested that Fußi could possibly run with his own list in the upcoming Vienna state elections. However, he made it clear that he would like to concentrate on his business life again for the time being. After all, there are numerous invalid and alleged forgeries among the collected signatures. Fußi emphasized that legal action was taken against some of Babler's supporters because document falsification should not be tolerated.
“Babler will be history,” Fußi declared recently. Nevertheless, he remains optimistic after this setback and describes the last few months as instructive. Instead of thinking about the Vienna elections, he would now like to focus on returning to the PR industry, like them Small newspaper reported. This ends Fussi's ambition to reform or even take over the SPÖ, at least for the time being.
