Science for everyone: Press conference illuminates MINT challenges!
Presseclub Concordia, Wien, Österreich - On April 29, 2025, a hybrid press conference of the relief organization will take place in the Press Club Concordia in Vienna. Topics will be the mediation of science and the associated challenges. This event is led by Martin Moder, a well -known molecular biologist and science buster. Together with Othmar Karas, the President of the aid organization Austria, as well as Elisabeth Anselm and Isabella Ecker, both representatives of the aid organization, he will discuss the current questions about science transfer. The press conference deals with the skepticism of science in Austria and the problems that have arisen in the imparting of scientific and technical topics.
Many Austrians show great interest in science, but often feel insufficiently informed and overwhelmed. Children in particular show a natural curiosity for MINT subjects (mathematics, computer science, natural sciences, technology), but often lose confidence in their skills as they are in the course of their educational career. The press conference is intended to address opportunities how the interest and skills of children can be strengthened in these areas and illustrate necessary measures in the educational institutions.
MINT seal of approval and educational innovations
The promotion of MINT issues is now a central concern in the educational landscape of Austria. According to the Ministry of Education, 61 educational institutions were awarded the "Mint-Gütesiegel 2022-2025" to arouse interest in these subjects from kindergarten and to promote across the entire educational chain. The Minister of Education Martin Polaschek welcomed the excellent institutions to the award, which took place for the first time since the pandemic in front of a large audience. These help to reduce the skepticism of science and to establish innovative learning approaches in mathematics, computer science, natural sciences and technology.
The planned initiatives also includes the introduction of a mandatory “digital basic education” in secondary school 1, which is scheduled to start in the coming school year. The need to build regional networks for MINT offers was also emphasized. MINT regions are intended to integrate excellent MINT kindergartens, schools as well as other educational institutions and companies in order to achieve synergetic effects.
role systems and future challenges
Another important aspect that could be discussed during the conference is the extraction of international MINT talents. Experts warn of an impending shortage of skilled workers in these areas and require measures to enlarge the talent pool and to improve the administrative framework. The area of MINT formation is therefore not only faced with challenges, but also before the chance to maintain Austria's dominance in science and technology.
