Wismar celebrates: The biggest German cruise ship Disney Adventure is rocked!
Wismar, Deutschland - On April 22, 2025, the new cruise ship "Disney Adventure" in Wismar, Germany, left the dock. With an impressive length of about 340 meters, it is one of the largest ships worldwide and is the largest ever built in Germany. The ship has now reached the equipment kai, where the last work is carried out before it is expected to start operations for the Disney Group in Southeast Asia in December 2025. Prime Minister Manuela Schwesig (SPD) described this day as a "big day" for the region that benefited from the realization of the project.
The construction time of the "Disney Adventure" extended for around seven years. However, the construction of the ship was characterized by challenges: a corona-related bankruptcy of the MV shipyard group in 2022 led to considerable delays. Disney Cruise Line took over the ship from the bankruptcy estate of the Asian company Gentting Hong Kong, which could not survive the pandeme -related economic difficulties.
Details on building history and impact on the region
The passenger capacity of the "Disney Adventure" was originally designed for 9,500 passengers. Due to the revision and the current market conditions, this has now been reduced to 6,000 passengers. The conversion and completion of the ship were taken over by the Meyer shipyard from Papenburg, which Schiffbauer also hired from the MV shipyards. Thanks to this project, between 400 and 600 shipyard workers could be employed; In addition, several hundred employees of service providers and suppliers benefited from the construction work. The construction of the "Disney Adventure" underlines the importance of the cruise industry for regional management. Despite the challenging circumstances in the industry, the success of this project shows that progress can be made even in difficult times.
Situation of Hansa Touristik
The company received 2022 Corona aids of over 2.4 million euros, but this was not sufficient to solve the financial problems. After Horst Kilian's management was submitted, Karin Kilian worked as a liquidator, while a farewell message was published on the company website. This situation illustrates the resistance and at the same time the vulnerability of the cruise industry.
