Will Yuki Tsunoda be replaced at Red Bull? Two options are available!
Yuki Tsunoda is on the verge of a crucial turn in his career as he appears unable to make a convincing case for staying with Red Bull Racing. The end of his time with the team is now considered an open secret, which results in great uncertainty about his future in Formula 1. According to LAOLA1, Tsunoda could fall back on two options that could present itself to him.
The first option would be a return to the Racing Bulls, while young talent Isack Hadjar faces a possible promotion to become Max Verstappen's teammate. Hadjar has attracted attention this season with impressive performances, including a podium at the Dutch Grand Prix, and could also replace Liam Lawson, whose hold on the Red Bull leadership is shaky due to unfortunate moves. Lawson, who will be on the team with Tsunoda in 2025, has been criticized, among other things, for a collision with Tsunoda in Monza.
Fear of the future and alternatives
Another consideration for Tsunoda could be a move to Alpine. He is reportedly on Alpine boss Flavio Briatore's list, while his teammate Pierre Gasly has pledged his support for Tsunoda. The decision on his future is not expected to be made until the end of the year, prolonging the uncertainty for the young driver, who competed in just 14 races for Red Bull in 2025, collecting 12 points.
In addition to the transfer rumors, it is also notable that Red Bull plans to fire Tsunoda at the end of the 2026 season to make room for Hadjar, who would serve as Verstappen's fourth teammate in over a season and a half. Tsunoda's performances as Verstappen's teammate fell short of expectations. At the Japanese Grand Prix, Tsunoda only qualified 14th and finished the race in 12th place.
Red Bull's past with driver swaps
Red Bull has repeatedly changed driver pairings for performance reasons in recent years. Examples of this include the quick changes between Liam Lawson and Tsunoda, as well as the earlier decision to replace Daniil Kwjat with Max Verstappen, which proved highly successful. According to Motorsport.com, another swap after just two unfortunate weekends could open up hundreds of possibilities.
The team has a clear strategy to bring younger talent to the top and Hajar looks to be the next big project. Tsunoda, while awaiting the team's decisions, is also accompanied by the statement that he is in 19th place in the drivers' standings, while Verstappen is already on 230 points and in third place.
